Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The 8-acre vineyard, bordered by the Silverado Trail and Zinfandel Lane, forms the appellation’s northeast corner. The western edge of the property is bordered by the Napa River, a major passageway for steelhead trout and Chinook salmon. Environmentally friendly farming methods ensure that the river maintains its healthy, pristine condition. The vineyard’s Pleasanton soil series produces fruit characterized by earthy aromas, flavors of black currant and the ideal tannin structure necessary for extended aging. Hand-selected lots were harvested to produce only 331 cases of individually numbered bottles of this outstanding vintage.
The wine is luscious and full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. It is ready to be enjoyed now but, with thoughtful storage, will continue to evolve in flavor and character through 2024.
Production Notes
Winemakers across Napa Valley reported another stellar harvest for 2018. Bud break began early due to a warm spring, and the summer then brought moderate daytime temperatures with cool evenings. Harvest started early, in mid-August, and progressed at a steady pace. October ushered in a few rain showers that put a swift end to a successful harvest.
Food Pairing Notes
We suggest you enjoy this hearty wine alongside savory, umami-filled dishes like bacon-wrapped scallops, pan-seared filet mignon or vegetable risotto with fava beans, spring onions and garlic, finished with a delicious topping of Pecorino Romano cheese.
